Thomas H. Slone’s Other Photos
Here, I’m with someone’s pet brown lemur (Lemur fulvus fulvus) in northern
Madagascar (1992).
Here, I am wrestling and tickling with two juvenile male orangutans, Apollo Bob and Asep in 1987
at Camp Leakey, Tanjung Puting National Park, Kalimantan Tengah, Indonesia. These orangutans
were former pets that were released back into the wild at this location. I assisted Dr.
Biruté Galdikas with her research on orangutans as a volunteer for
Earthwatch. Dr. Galdikas is currently supported by the Orangutan Foundation International.
The tickling continues...
And continues...
Apollo Bob gives me the once over...
Apollo Bob looks for treats...
Apollo Bob rests but keeps an iron grip upon me...
Apollo Bob pulls a strap on my belt...
I’m holding an infant orangutan in the nursery.
I’m (green shirt) standing in the market of Teluk Melano, Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia (1986).
I’m (left) bagging an orthopteroid insect with James Castner at the Explorama Lodge, near Iquitos, Peru (1988).
I’m (left) pinning insects with Edwin Cooper at the Explorama Lodge, near Iquitos, Peru (1988).
I’m cooking cicadas in garlic oil in Tari, Southern Highlands Province, Papua New Guinea (1991).
I’m pootering jumping spiders (family Salticidae) in Guanacaste National Park, Costa Rica (1998).
I’m cleaning caterpillar frass (feces) of detritus in Guanacaste National Park, Costa Rica (1998). Do I remind you of Dr. Caligari?
